Newsletter 2010

Hello Friends of Camp’s Bay,

From our family to yours, we hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and we extend our warmest wishes to you for 2010. We arrived at the resort on December 27th for our Christmas holidays and found a beautiful mess!! While people in the States were getting inundated with snowstorms, we here in Eastern Ontario experienced an ice storm. It is absolutely beautiful as you can see from the pictures below. It’s like being inside a crystal palace, but what a mess it makes of the trees.

We spent the first few days just pulling huge branches out to the road from around the cottages. Thankfully none of the cottages were damaged from the branches but there will be plenty of clean up in spring when the snow melts. We also saw our first moose on the road in to the resort. It was a baby but still quite a size! Now we have moose, deer, wild turkeys, ducks and of course loons, herons as well as our favourite friends the chipmunks.

As we celebrate the New Year at Camp’s Bay with our family, the snowstorms have reached us and we are enjoying a warm cozy fire as we look out over the lake at the storm in anticipation of getting out on the fresh snow on the lake with the snowmobiles. There is already 10 inches of ice on the lake as it has been very cold (-35 with the wind chill factor)!! We took advantage of the one beautiful day we got sunshine during the holidays and had a hotdog cookout on the lake. The boys did some ice fishing and caught a ling and a nice 18 inch walleye.

Our family members have all been busy with school and work but not much has changed. Adam is attending school this winter and will be finished his level II factory trained marine mechanics certificate in April. Valerie is busy working and taking a few business courses at college. Lindsay and Scott are busy doing renovations to their house and planning for their wedding. Erin is working hard at her nursing degree and will be finishing up her second year after this semester. She is starting to look at different hospitals and planning for her future. Emily is on the second semester of her social worker course at college She changed her mind about teaching and is now pursuing being a Social Worker instead. She seems to really enjoy college….especially the partying part!! Evan is busy at high school, he is in grade 11 this year and still enjoys playing hockey.

Murray and I have been occupied getting the resort closed for the year and then Christmas. Now we are concentrating on getting ready to do sports shows and getting the renovations for this year under way. We have planned to redo the kitchen in cottage #11 and this year we also have a company coming in to install satellite internet for your convenience. It will be set up and ready to go in March. We are still planning to put satellite television in all the 2 bedroom cottages and are working on this project in the spring. This year we are renovating our own residence with a new kitchen and bathroom. After 10 years of bandages, painting and repainting and trying to keep it up, Susan will finally get her new kitchen and bathroom.

A new well was drilled in September at our executive 4 bedroom cottage #14. We ended up drilling 225 feet and finally hit excellent water!! Our wonderful carpenter is building new storage cupboards with drawers upstairs in the bedrooms of cottage 14 and this year we are including a propane BBQ on the deck for your use as well as free dockage for the first 2 boats. We have also built 3 more new docks replacing docks at cottages #8 and #7 as well as enlarging the dock at cottage #12 and repaired the dock for cottage #11. Meantime, we are still continually replacing as needed a few appliances and sofa beds throughout the cottages. Cabin #12 our deluxe cottage will be upgraded to include a propane BBQ as well as a dishwasher. Lastly, cottage #8 got a lovely facelift. It has been totally redone on the outside and turned out gorgeous as you can see above.men with fish

The environment of Canada people proclaimed that this past summer had the wettest July on record since they started keeping records. August was mediocure at best, and by my recollection, same as in the past couple of years, we had a really nice September and an amazing November. Usually November is a month of dark, dreary, cold rainy weather but it turned out to be one of the sunniest months of the season. Thankfully we escaped any big storms and blackouts, and didn’t get to experience any tornados or micro bursts during the summer!! Even though the weather was a little inconvenient, it seems everyone had a good time and enjoyed everything the lake and being on vacation with your feet up has to offer. We hope that this summer coming will bring nice warm weather and perfect conditions for your fishing, swimming and boating pleasure. Most of our guests had good luck when they went out fishing. See some excellent fish that were caught this past year throughout our website and below. Some so nice they got a great big kiss!!

Enjoying your surroundings…swimming, sunbathing, boating, fishing or just sitting in the shade with your favourite drink overlooking scenes like these is a great pastime while you are at Camp’s Bay Resort….

This year we will be trying out some new sports shows. We will be attending the Garden State Outdoor Sportsmen’s & Adventure Show in New Jersey at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center (Raritan Center Expo Hall) in Edison, beginning January 14, 15, 16 and 17th 2010. We are in booth 365. Then we will visit Harrisburg, PA for the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show located at the State Farm Show Complex beginning Feb. 6th through 14th 2010. We can be found in booth number 217. After the Harrisburg show we will go on to Monroeville Convention Center for the 2010 Allegheny Sports Show. It starts on February 17, 18,19, 20 & 21st and we can be found in booth 1126. From there we plan to go to Niagara Falls for a couple of days on the way to the London Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show in London, Ontario. It begins on February 26,27 & 28th 2010 at the Western Fair Grounds. We will be in booth 134. We will return home for a couple of days after London (to unpack our show stuff) then we plan to take the family to Florida for a well deserved “summer” vacation for a couple of weeks. If you will be attending any of the shows during the month of January or February, please stop by and see us! Sorry to miss anyone attending both the Ottawa and Toronto shows that we are not doing this year…please give us a call if you had planned to see us at those shows.

I know everyone is aware of the passport regulations but if not, all information can be found on our bulletin board page in the website. Fishing licences can still be purchased from us….don’t forget to bring your new card with you so you only have to buy a sticker instead of the whole licence. You should have received your licence in the form of a card by now. If not please call the Ministry of Natural Resources Bancroft Branch.

We hope you all have a prosperous and fantastic New Year and we look forward to seeing everyone this upcoming summer. We have made most of the changes on our website already so have a look through to see if any of the new pictures sport you with your big fish. As always…we are happy to post pictures you may have sitting in your camera that you forgot to send us….we love pictures of people having fun, fish and general scenery. Thank you to those of you who have shared your pictures with us. We hope you enjoy looking through the website and that it adds to the excitement of coming back for your Camp’s Bay Summer Vacation and Fishing experience.
